The 2012 Pro Surfing Tournament in Arroyo Seco Mexico
The three day Pro 2012 Surfing tournament in Arroyo Seco was on Jan 12-14th which was coordinated by San Pancho’s
Artemio and Sandra Rosas, who previously owned
The San Pancho Surf and Skate Shop in San Pancho, and also put on last years Pro 2011 Surfing Tournament in San Pancho on the beautiful Riviera Nayarit in Mexico.
Friday, the first day of the event was for registration, with Saturday and Sunday for the competition. The theme of this years Pro 2012 Surfing Competition was NO ALCOHOL, NO DRUGS.This year there were 30 contestants that registered for the competition that were from Mexico, US, and France. The two categories this year were Sub 18, and the Men’s Pro Open. Unfortunately, only two women registered for the event and the judges felt that there were not enough women registered to compete this year.
The Surfing Contestants
There were some big names there like Adan Hernandez from Sayulita who is sponsored by Quick Silver, Raul Salinas,
Julio Quinonez, Goyo and Edgar Rodriquez from our
San Pancho, and our Sayulita guys Justo Alcantar and Bodoque, Gato, Felipe Hernandez, and Adrian Rodriquez , and many more. Martin Olea, who is known as “the best from Jalisco” from Bara de Navidad, and Artemio thought that he surfed some of the best waves of the first surfing day.
Chivo was also there for the event, who is a retired surfer legend from Paczcualas.
The Heat is On!
There were five heats on Saturday, with good swell and wave heights head high plus. There
was a nice pipeline with the break
was to the left with the wave speed about 25km. The heats are classified by age. The waves were a bit smaller on Sunday. The classifications are the Men’s Pro Open, and Sub 18.
Unfortunately there were only two women registered for the event, and the judges felt that there were not enough women registered for the event to compete this year.
During the event all of the competitors, as well as the sponsors, were provided
a delicious chicken meal, with beans, salad, chicken, tortillas and some really great hot sauces from Carlos and his crew who own Pollos Carlos in Arroyo Seco. They supplied 40 chickens for the event! They also made some great Chorizo tacos! And it was delicious! Thanks Carlos!

also runs the restaurant, selling hamburgers, chicken burgers, enchiladas, tacos and other Mexican delights. This is Sandra making
burgers and hotdogs for the crew during the awards ceremony outside of the restaurant. They grow all of their organic products that they cook with. They have two Bungalows to rent that are clean and as well as the showers and bathrooms. They have 3 very beautiful children, Genisis age 9, Jocabed age 5 and Israel is three years old.
Sandra and Artemio relocated here to raise their children in a clean environment
where they can grow their own food and help to raise awareness within the community and world about helping children find their paths without getting caught up with drugs and other problems that can be induced by poverty. Artemio gives free surfing lessons to the kids that do not have a way to pay for them.
Another project that Artemio and Sandra are doing is called Arroyo Seco Centro de Proteccion de La Tortuga Marina. It is all about saving and protecting the turtles, and they were also volunteers
in the San Pancho turtle projects as well. You can find them on their facebook page Cuidsemos las Tortugas (take care of the turtles) for more information.
We also got to witness the releasing of about 70 newly hatched turtles. They are so cute!!
Thanks to Artemio and Sandra for all of the hard work, time and energy put into the 2012 Pro Surfing Competition. They really did a great job! and everyone was well taken care of and had a wonderful time. Lets go surfing!
